411 West - so many mixed feelings. Love the ambience and service. Food? Not so much. Uninspired is the first word that comes to mind. Whole wheat fettuccini with chicken had flavor but sauce was too thin and the pasta did not taste homemade. Kids penne pasta was BAD - 100% frozen, overly cooked and bland meatballs. Pesto pasta was good - decent amount of vegetables along with pesto. Shrimp ravioli special was the best at our table - flavorful sauce, but was not thick enough. Beautiful interior and attentive service not enough to overcome the food deficiencies. As some others have said, 411 West was great back in the day (for me the ‘90’s) but sadly going downhill.

Loved our meal. I hadn’t been here in years but I’m so glad we did. We will definitely keep them in our restaurant rotation. Vibe was great fairly quiet on a busy weekend but we were still able to carry on conversations. Our waitress was friendly and on the ball. At one point I was just looking around to get a better view of the restaurant and another staff member noticed and came to make sure we were ok. Love the team work vibe. Our food from appetizers to desserts and our drinks were very delicious - I wouldn’t change a thing. 5 stars all around.

This place was good for the location, but portions were small and prices were high. Wood grilled shrimp appetizer was burnt. Beer selection was good and reasonably priced. The complimentary rolls are a nice touch.

Cute little gem. The food was good and our waitress was nice. I wish the food was hotter but other than that, the vibes were great, the food and drinks were great.

They say you should never meet your idols; maybe the same can be said for your favorite restaurants from decades ago. 411 West was one of my favorite restaurants during my undergrad and dental school days in Chapel Hill from 1990 -1998. I thought it was really fine dining (and maybe it was). When we arrived at the Carolina Inn for our daughter’s orientation, I was pleasantly surprised to learn it’s still open and suggested it for dinner. We were moderately disappointed by the food, although I thoroughly enjoyed their Peach & Prosciutto Pizza. That was by far the best entree, and the Crème Brûlée was very good as well. The Wood-Grilled Tenderloin was perfectly cooked but over-charred on one side and quite under-seasoned. It needed a fair amount of salt & pepper. My wife’s Wood-Grilled Salmon was similarly under-seasoned, even though it was also cooked to the perfect tenderness. She did enjoy the mashed potatoes. Service, location, and atmosphere were great, but most of the food didn’t have much flavor.
